The Five Principles of Absolute
Horsemanship
1. If you are wrestling, you aren’t training. Absolute Horsemanship is training through trust and communication. Wrestling and using force does not build trust, and it does not foster communication. Any fool can use force, the wise use grace.
2. Horses who don’t respect, don’t bow. The bow is the first milestone in Absolute Horsemanship. Although the road to the bow isn’t always smooth, it is ultimately achieved through trust and communication, not force. Wrestling a horse into a bow just proves that you can wrestle a horse into a bow.
4. Horses can’t read, so don’t give them deadlines. Strong relationships aren’t built under the pressure of deadlines. What some can achieve in days, may take others months or even years. Absolute Horsemanship is about building a strong, healthy relationship, not the accomplishment of a task. Finishing a task is a result of the strong relationship, not the root of it. 5. Good trainers don’t keep secrets. Absolute Horsemanship is horsemanship free of secrets. Our knowledge added to your God-give talent should make you better than we. If this does not become truth, then one of us has failed.

3. Horses who don’t trust, don’t lie down. The lie down is the crowning glory of Absolute Horsemanship. Those who force the lie down prove that they can conquer. Those who ask for and receive the lie down, demonstrate that they can communicate.

- 2004 Show and Clinic Schedule
Brenda Sapergia and Jackie Johnson show how personality
and communication styles, of both horses and their handlers,
can make the difference between training success and training
disaster. After highlighting personality and communication
styles, they then teach horse owners how to cope when conflicts
exist. Using the Principles of Absolute Horsemanship, they
show you how to use the best of your personality
and communication style, to get the most
from your horse. They help build a better relationship between
you and your horse so that you can achieve things like:
Bow, Lie Down, Pedestal, Salute and much, much more. More
importantly, they make horsemanship affordable,
achievable and fun
- regardless of the age of you, or your horse.

Absolute
Horsemanship ~ Nationally and Internationally |
- Western Canada Farm Progress Equine Expo
Jackie Johnson and Brenda Sapergia introduced the Principles
of Absolute Horsemanship at the first ever Western Canada
Farm Progress Equine Expo with 26, trained horses. The viewing
audience (some from as far away as New Zealand and Ecuador)
watched as horses, and donkeys (displaying the utmost trust
in their handlers) bowed, kneeled, lay down, sit up, stepped
onto a pedestal and gave a smile, salute or handshake. In
a 'first of its kind presentation', Johnson and Sapergia
captivated their audience, with what can only be described
as the Evolution of Horsemanship.
